DANVERS – The Essex Tech Hawks played their first game as members of the Cape Ann League Friday night and ended up on the short end of a 39-14 score against Newburyport. Coach Dan Connors expects improvement week to week from his young team as a bunch of sophomores are working with upperclassmen trying to fill the void left by 14 seniors who graduated in June.
Amesbury (1-0) visits Essex Tech Friday at 7 p.m. The Red Hawks beat North Reading 40-38 last Friday.
