Updates from this week
BEVERLY — Endicott defensive back Joseph Pagett (Newtown, Conn.) has earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office yesterday.
Pagett made his stats count in Endicott’s 31-0 shutout victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday.
The graduate student defensive back/safety hybrid registered three tackles (two solo) and notched two interceptions (tied single-game career-high) for the Gulls.
His first interception came with under six minutes to play in the first quarter. Pagett robbed the Saints of a potential touchdown drive by securing the pick at Endicott’s own 6-yard line as the Gulls maintained a slim 7-0 lead, at the time.
Pagett later all but closed the lid on the contest in the fourth quarter with under 12 minutes to play via his second pick at St. Lawrence’s 46-yard line.
As a team, and thanks in large part to Pagett’s work at the top of the defense, the Gulls held St. Lawrence to 68 yards passing, the Saints lowest mark (13) since 10/15/22 against Ithaca.
This is Pagett’s first career CCC weekly award.
