Over the Labor Day weekend we are reprising over 25 feature interviews with north shore football coaches. In these interviews the coaches share memories from the days as players and reflect on the events and people that have shaped them as coaches. These interviews were conducted in August, many of them prior to the first day of practices (8/18). After Labor Day, msonewsports will be previewing opening high school matchups on the opening weekend of play. (9/8)
BEVERLY – Jeff Hutton is beginning his 24th season as a high school football coach – 15 as an assistant coach at Beverly; 6 as head coach at Manchester-Essex; and now starting his third as HC of BHS. Coach Hutton has taken an interesting journey from playing in a strong “D1” high school program in southern New Jersey to getting a full ride at to play football Boston University (and watching the football program shut down after his sophomore year) to becoming an assistant coach at Beverly under head coach Dan Bauer.
Too big to play Pee Wee Football, Coach Hutton’s first organized experience was as a freshman in high school. In an effort to get as much playing time as possible, he studied and learned as many positions as he could and became adept on special teams, and on offense and defense.
He remains as enthusiastic about the game and about teaching as he was when MSO first interviewed him 8 years ago.
