BEVERLY — Endicott junior catcher John Mulready (Peabody) has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III Gold Glove Team.
Mulready is the second student-athlete in program history to win a Gold Glove Award joining two-time honoree Brett Holmgren ’14 (Middleboro) on the exclusive list.
Holmgren, a first baseman, was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Gold Glove Team in 2013 and 2014. The Gulls made back-to-back NCAA Regional Finalist appearances during that span.
Additionally, Mulready is the first catcher from New England to claim Gold Glove honors since the award was established in 2007 by the ABCA.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards are selected by ABCA coaches committees at each level: NCAA Division I, II & III, NAIA, NJCAA Division I, II & III, Pacific Association Division, and High School.
In 52 games this season, Mulready posted a .995 fielding percentage on 397 total chances.
The junior catcher converted 369 putouts and notched 26 assists while only committing two errors. He also threw out 16 baserunners, helped turn one double play, and totaled just four passed balls.
Mulready’s game-calling, presence, and baseball IQ led the Gulls’ pitching staff to the second-best earned run average (ERA) in all of Division III (3.25).
Endicott also ranked first in hits allowed per nine innings (7.56) and walks plus hits per innings pitched (1.18), third in shutouts (8), and eighth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.87).
Mulready was equally impressive at the plate as the junior backstop slashed .339/.393/.503 to go along with 34 runs scored, 64 hits — 14 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR — 37 RBI, 14 walks, and two stolen bases.
His postseason honors this spring now include a Gold Glove Award, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Year accolades, and an All-CCC First Team selection.

Endicott concluded its historic 2023 season ranked No. 5 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll and No. 6 via D3baseball.com.
The Gulls won a program record 45 games en route to making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III College World Series.
Endicott also was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally throughout the season (program record).
