City of Newburyport – In this episode of the Mayor’s Corner, Mayor Sean Reardon offers his condolences to the Methuen man who died in last week’s explosion on Opportunity Way. He re-caps the incident, its aftermath and applauds his first responders, particularly the Newburyport Fire Department. Speaking of the NFD, Mayor Reardon has appointed Acting Chief Steve Bradbury as Fire Chief effective June 1st. He is a lifelong Newburyport resident who joined the Fire Department in 1993 as a call firefighter, and became a full-time firefighter in 1996. Last Thursday’s Boards and Commissions Information Night was a huge success.  Mayor Reardon thanks all who attended and all volunteers who hosted their respective tables.

Hamilton-Wenham Library – The resident company of Hamilton-Wenham School of Dance, Allegro Dance Ensemble, will perform various dance selections. After the performance, children can take a short dance lesson. Costumes are encouraged! This free program is open to all ages. No registration required.

Girls Lacrosse – Manchester-Essex 12, Ipswich 6 – For the majority of the game it was neck and neck, with the two teams exchanging goals and staying within a point of each other. But with 13:44 left in the second half Manchester Essex surged ahead and ended the game with 5 unanswered goals. 

For the Generals, Evie Bernard dominated the draw circle (8 draw controls) while netting 3 goals. Maisie Leland saw a goal and an assist, while Avery Nistl was successful in both of her free positions, scoring twice and playing well in the midfield.
The star of the Generals’ defense was goalie Ava Vautour, who had an impressive 18 saves against the strong Hornets’ offense.

Girls Tennis – Hamilton-Wenham Girls Tennis team (13-1) (10 – 0 CAL) had an impressive win over Lynnfield (3rd ranked team in D4 power rankings) today sweeping all the matches.

Sky Jara had one of her most impressive wins of the season at number 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Paige Martino
