Georgetown Fire Department Extinguishes Fire in Attached Garage, Spares Home from Damage

GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department and mutual aid partners extinguished a working fire in an attached garage on Thursday, and managed to keep the fire from extending into the home.

On Thursday, April 20, at 4:28 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department was notified of a structure fire at 200 Andover St.

Engine 2 arrived at the scene at 4:33 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke showing from a garage that is attached to a two-story, single-family home.

Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire in the garage and were able to knock it down before it extended to the rest of the home. The fire was knocked down at 4:39 p.m.

The family that lives in the home will be able to remain. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Georgetown Fire Department, Georgetown Police and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire was the second in two days to be extinguished by the Georgetown Fire Department and mutual aid partners.

Firefighters from Groveland and Newbury provided mutual aid at the scene, as did the Rehab 5 unit. Firefighters from Boxford, West Newbury, Newburyport and Rowley covered Georgetown stations.

“As they did yesterday as well, companies made a quick, aggressive attack on the seat of the fire and were able to keep damage to a minimum,” said Chief McKay. “I would also like to once again thank our reliable mutual aid partners for their support.”
