Head to CAM Green to celebrate Earth Day through a trash art workshop with experimental artist Sinikka Nogelo of Gloucester. Workshop participants will find all manner of recyclables and found objects on hand for creating collective works or their own individual pieces. Attendees may bring things they themselves have collected. Using imagination and creativity, workshop participants will work together to create a collaborative sculpture out of trash. The final piece will be displayed along with original work by Sinikka Nogelo the historic White-Ellery House (1710) from May 12-14 and May 19-21, 2023.

A life-long painter, Nogelo created abstractions of environmental challenges such as the atmosphere’s ozone hole, oil spills, and melting polar ice before she began her work as a sculptor. The discovery of gyres of plastic in the oceans that spurred her to three-dimensional action with her series of wall pieces made out of plastic. The first of these was included in a solo show Tin – Relics and Remakes at the White-Ellery House. In recent years, Nogelo has continued to highlight recyclables when creating environmental themed works for the Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. A member of the Cape Ann Artisans, Nogelo is offering this workshop as part of the Cape Ann Artisans 40th Anniversary.
