LOWELL (Photos – Videos) #1 St. Mary’s (23-2) defeated league rival #3 Bishop Fenwick (17-8) in the MIAA D3 State Championship game today 45-41 at the Tsongas Center. St. Mary’s captured their third straight D3 title as they school now has six state championships in girls basketball. The Spartans were led by an 18-point performance from senior guard Yirsy Queliz. (Video below) Kellyn Preira added 9 points for St. Mary’s. Bishop Fenwick’s Cecilia Kay (Video below) led all scorers with a game high of 23 points. The Spartans opened up a 15-point lead (30-15) late in the second quarter. The game completely changed in the third quarter as St. Mary’s was held to only two points and led by just 32-20 heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was close until the very end of the quarter when the Spartans a six-point lead (45-39).
