BOXFORD – (Photo) The Masconomet Regional School District and Superintendent Michael Harvey wish to congratulate the Masconomet Regional High School gymnastics team for winning its fourth consecutive state championship earlier this month.
The team participated in the state championships on March 3 at Algonquin Regional High School in Northboro. Masconomet’s latest state title came in dramatic fashion, with team members excelling in the final round vault to leapfrog rival Danvers by 0.450.
Key contributors to the championship include:
- Junior Bella Misiura, who is committed to the University of Illinois, finished second overall and first on bars, ending with an overall score of 38.6.
- Ninth-grader Janey Young, who responded when the team needed her most, earning a 9.3 on vault and a 9.25 on floor.
- Senior captain and team leader Greta Mowers, who finished her high school career with a huge score of 9.7 on vault and 9.125 on floor.
- Ninth grader Kate Mugge, who also was instrumental in the victory, scoring in three events, vault (9.3), beam (9.25), and bars (8.7).
- Sophomore Meri Brandt, who earned a 9.475 on beam and 9.1 on bars.
- Senior Mya Champlain, whose floor routine was vital to helping the team to victory.
- Junior Kenna Miyazaki, who scored an 8.4 on vault.
- Senior captain Brooklyn Odoardi, who finished with an 8.85 on beam.
- Ninth grader Carly O’Heir, who finished with an 8.55 on vault.
Head Coach Alicia Gomes and Assistant Coach Jana Mowers, former collegiate gymnasts, provided guidance and leadership throughout the season. Gomes was named the Northeastern Conference Coach of the Year by her peers.
Student-athletes also earned numerous honors: Bella Misiura was selected Most Valuable Performer in the Conference. Kenna Miyazaki was named All-Conference in the vault, while Fallon Eberhardt was named All-Conference in the bars. Great Mowers and Jamey Young were named All-Conference in the beam.
“Congratulations to the student-athletes and our devoted coaches for another terrific season,” Superintendent Harvey said. “The hours of training and dedication paid off, and team members stepped up when it counted most.”
