Endicott Women’s Basketball Falls to Roger Williams on Sunday
BRISTOL, R.I. â The sixth-seeded Endicott women’s basketball team fell to first-seeded Roger Williams, 61-51, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.
Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led the Gulls with a game-high double-double of 18 points and 12 boards, alongside two blocks.
Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus) added 10 points and four rebounds while, Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks raced out to a 19-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter courtesy of a late 7-0 run.
Endicott responded in the second by orchestrating a 6-0 spurt to chip away at Roger Williams’ lead, 19-16. The run was ignited by a Laugeni jumper, an Emily St. Thomas (Sterling) long two-pointer, and a Dempsey layup.
From there, Roger Williams held Endicott scoreless for the next 4:36 of action, which eventually fueled a 9-3 run to close out the half and secure a Hawks’ 28-19 advantage at the break.
The Blue and Green came out of halftime with all cylinders firing outscoring the hosts 14-6 to bring the game within one point, 34-33, with 3:10 remaining in the third.
Dempsey and Bogdanski highlighted the run with four points each, while Cassie Caldwell (Marshfield), St. Thomas, and Laugeni all contributed two points apiece.
Roger Williams halted an Endicott comeback, however, pulling away by as many as 13 points (50-37) in the fourth quarter to win its second straight conference championship.

Endicott Men’s Ice Hockey Team Advances in CCC Playoffs
BEVERLY â Behind a four-goal effort from Cass Bowes (Sturgeon County, Albert), the No. 4 nationally ranked Endicott men’s ice hockey team defeated Salve Regina, 5-4, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals on Saturday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Noah Strawn (Wareham) finished off the victory with a second-chance effort at the doorstep with 1:30 remaining in regulation on a feed from Jack Ring (Guilford, Conn.) and Connor Amsley (Carlisle, Pa.).
The Gulls trailed 4-2 in the third period with less than seven minutes to play, but never wavered as Bowes buried back-to-back tallies (14:43, 18:00) prior to Strawn’s heroics.
Bowes also scored twice in the first period at 4:24 and 16:41, respectively.
In goal, Atticus Kelly (St. Paul, Minn.) stopped 21 shots to improve to 11-0-2 on the season.

- Bowes’ four-goal day ranks tied for second all-time in a single game (5, James Winkler, Becker, 1/25/2020).
- Strawn potted his sixth career game-winner (third this season).
- Endicott improved to 11-9-0 all-time against Salve Regina.

Salem State Men’s Hockey Upsets Fitchburg in MASCAC Playoffs
Fitchburg â Erik Larsson (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) notched a goal and two assists as #6 Salem State upset #3 seed Fitchburg State, 6-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) quarterfinal action on Saturday afternoon at the Wallace Civic Center. The Vikings advance to take on #2 Worcester State on Tuesday. It is the second year in a row Salem State advanced as the sixth seed. The Vikings up their record to 8-18, while the Falcons end their season 12-11-3.
Junior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) slid a soft pass across the front of the net to a wide-open Toivo Kramer (New York, NY), who deposited his fifth goal of the season past Vikings’ netminder Aaron Mercer (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) to give the Green and Gold a 1-0 lead at the 8:23 mark.
With just six ticks left in the first period, Erik Larsson (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) one-timed his sixteenth goal of the season past freshman Max Macchioni (North Kingstown, RI) to knot the score at 1-1.
Sophomore Jack Johansen (Milford, NH) tallied his first collegiate goal early in the second period to forge the Falcons ahead 2-1. Salem notched the equalizer with a 5-on-3 power-play goal from junior David Cicak (Cranford, NJ) at 16:03 of the frame.
The Vikings took the lead (3-2) when senior Connor Wooley (Poghquag, NY) found classmate Matt Yianacopolus (Wakefield) open in front of the Falcons net for his sixth goal of the season. Less than two minutes later Wooley added an unassisted goal to push the advantage to 4-2.
Keagan O’Donoghue (Frisco, Texas) and Landyn Greatorex (Reading) added insurance goals in the third to help Salem State skate away with a 6-2 victory.
Mercer had 23 stops, for the win while Max Macchioni finished with 24 saves in 53 minutes of action. Salem State held the advantage in shots 33-25.

Endicott Women’s Ice Hockey Wins
BEVERLY â The No. 2 seeded Endicott women’s ice hockey team shut out No. 3 Western New England, 2-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals on Saturday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Lindsay Goodman (Newmarket, N.H.) and Samantha Fantasia (Billerica) scored in the second (8:07) and third (13:09) periods, respectively, to punch Gulls’ ticket to the CCC Championship next Saturday.
Meanwhile, in goal, Michaela O’Brien (Pembroke) turned away 25 shots to improve to 11-4-2 on the season (29-8-3 career | 10th career shutout).

- Endicott is 6-1-0 all-time against Western New England.
- The Gulls are 8-4-2 at home this season.
- Western New England finished the 2022-23 campaign with a program record 15 wins.
