Podcast Special: W. F. Newhall, Distance Runner Logging 100K Lifetime Running Miles – The Journey Becoming a Competitive Runner

SWAMPSCOTT (Podcast) – W.F. Newhall III is a north shore running legend. In this podcast interview Newhall explains how unexpectedly got into running while attending middle school in Swampscott. Recently Newhall became a member of the 100K mile runners club, details and links are posted below. Newhall has been running for 50 years and continues to run now at age 64. He is currently the cross-country coach at Swampscott High School and also coaches winter and spring track at the school.

The podcast also features many stories on his north shore races in the 1970s and 1980s. While at Springfield College he also achieved numerous successes. Information on the 100K mile lifetime running milestone is posted below. Newhall is also a member of the Swampscott High School Hall of Fame.

This September will mark 50 years of running for me. I estimate I have gone on 16,285 runs over the course of the past 49 years and 4 months. I think it’s a fair and conservative estimate that I averaged 6.15 miles on those 16,285 runs. That puts me at approximately 100,157.75 miles, four times around the planet. Here are the highlights of my first 50 years of running, first several of my personal bests, then several “honors.”
