Nahant Police Department Invites Community to Annual Tommy Hutton Christmas Parade

NAHANT – The Nahant Police Department invites the community to get into the holiday spirit at the annual Tommy Hutton Christmas Parade later this month.

The Parade steps off on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. from the Nahant Village Church, 27 Cliff St. The Parade route follows main roads in Town and ends back at the Church.

Santa will visit from the North Pole and will ride on the back of an old fire truck. which was repurposed by Johns Oil of Lynn for this special trip around Nahant.

Hutton, a police Lieutenant, created the Nahant Christmas Parade in 1995 with Police Chief Joseph Manley and Lt. Dean Palombo to share the spirit of the season throughout town. The Parade has grown from a few police cruisers to include public-safety vehicles, municipal vehicles, and tow trucks from Nahant and a number of area communities. The Parade was named for Hutton following his passing in 2015.

Parade participants will receive a bag of candy to throw along the parade route. Hot chocolate will be available. Following the parade, participants are invited to the Tides Restaurant & Pub for pizza and refreshments.

As part of the holiday season, the Tides will host its annual Christmas fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m. Reservations are requested, but not required. Proceeds from the event will support at least two graduating high school students who have been through the Nahant School system and who are living in Nahant. Scholarships recognize applicants’ community service and volunteerism, in or out of school.

A seven-day cruise from Boston to Bermuda will be raffled off. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the event or at the Nahant Police Station (cash or Venmo accepted).
