Endicott Football Coaches Show with Paul McGonagle – 8-0 Gulls Host Salve Regina Saturday at Noon – National Poll Update

BEVERLY (Podcast) This week Endicott football (8-0/4-0) coach Paul McGonagle looks back at Saturday’s 48-7 win at Curry College, shares player notes, and previews this week’s game at home against Salve Regina (5-3/2-2) at noon (Senior Day). The coach also discussed three north shore players that preformed well last weekend. In two weeks, the Gulls wrap up the regular season with a game at Western New England (11/12).

BEVERLY History continues to be made on the gridiron for Endicott football.

Following the announcements of the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Polls over the last two days, the Gulls have accomplished the following:

  • First-ever national ranking from D3football.com (No. 24 overall)
  • Highest national ranking in program history at No. 23 overall, via the AFCA
  • First time in program history being ranked in both polls

NOTES: The Gulls are also ranked No. 1 overall for the fifth straight week in the Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Coaches poll

Gridiron Gulls Take Home CCC Hardware – Updated Monday Afternoon 

BEVERLY — Endicott football student-athletes Clayton Marengi (Lynnfield)Hector Johnson (Worcester), and Joe Tirrell (Franklin) have all earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office earlier today.

Marengi was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, while Johnson and Tirrell received Specials Team Player of the Week and Defensive Rookie of the Week accolades, respectively.

Last Saturday against Curry (10/28), Marengi had a great offensive day for Endicott in its 48-7 CCC win over the Colonels. Marengi completed 14 of his 21 passes for 216 yards, including a career-best five touchdowns. Marengi also had a 231.6 efficiency rating in the win.

This is Marengi’s first career CCC Offensive Player of the Week award (third career weekly honor).

Meanwhile, Johnson scored his first-career touchdown last weekend. The touchdown came on a blocked field goal that Johnson was able to scoop up out of a scrum and return 78 yards to the end zone. Johnson broke multiple tackles on the return and also had one tackle on the day.

This is Johnson’s first career CCC Special Teams Player of the Week honor (third career weekly award).

Lastly, Tirrell aided Endicott in holding Curry to just seven points on the afternoon. Tirrell made four stops in the contest including three solo tackles.

The Gulls currently ranked second among all NCAA Division III programs in points allowed at 4.2 this season.

This is Tirrell’s sixth career CCC Defensive Rookie of the Week award.
