BIDDEFORD, Maine — The No. 25 nationally ranked Endicott football team defeated the University of New England (UNE), 43-0, in conference action on Saturday evening at Blue Storm Stadium.
With the win, the Gulls improve to 7-0 on the season (3-0 CCC) and set the single-season shutout record (4) in the process.
Endicott also tied the single-game record for sacks (10.0) and established a new high-water mark for tackles for a loss (17.0).
Offensively, Jonas Wiechmann (Acton, Mass.), Anthony Caggianelli (Pelham, N.H.), and Clayton Marengi (Lynnfield, Mass.) all scored 60-yard-plus touchdowns to highlight the Gulls.
Wiechmann made it 10-0 with a 62-yard catch-and-score in the first (0:50), while Marengi and Caggianelli dashed into the end zone via runs of 67-yards and 65-yards, respectively, in the second (19-0, 7:42 | 26-0, 1:56).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Colin Meropoulos (Monroe, Conn.) finished with four tackles (3 solo, 0.5 sacks) and a 23-yard scoop-and-score with 1:32 remaining before the break (33-0).
- Hector Johnson (Worcester, Mass.) notched a game-high 3.5 sacks (six tackles total, four solo, 4.5 TFL) to move into second place all-time on the single-season list behind Meropoulos, who had 14.0 in 2021.
- Jackson DeAngelo (North Reading, Mass.) registered a game-high/career-high 10 tackles (six solo, 1.0 sacks, 2.5 TFL, 1 forced fumble).
- As a unit, the Gulls’ defense forced four fumbles (tied second all-time).
- Yavier Cosme-Diaz (Stratford, Conn.) scored his first career rushing touchdown with a one-yard-plunge with 5:01 remaining in the contest.
