MSP INVESTIGATING SERIOUS CRASHES IN DANVERS AND TEWKSBURY

Massachusetts State Troopers responded to serious crashes in Danvers this morning and Tewksbury last night.

DANVERS

At 9:18 AM today Troopers from the State Police-Danvers Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 1 north on the overpass over Route 114 in Danvers. The crash involved a 2012 Ford Escape sport utility vehicle and a 2006 Subaru Forester sport utility vehicle. After the crash, the operator of the Escape, a 34-year-old male from Chelsea, either jumped or fell from the overpass, landing on the roadway of Route 114 approximately 20 feet below. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Forester was also transported to an area hospital with potential injuries. No information on that operator is available at this time. The facts and circumstance of the crash are under investigation.

TEWKSBURY

At approximately 7:20 PM Wednesday, Oct. 19, Troopers from the State Police-Andover Barracks and specialized units responded to a crash involving a 2006 Toyota Corolla and a pedestrian on Route 495 northbound in Tewksbury. The pedestrian, a 52-year-old male from Methuen, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section indicates that the Toyota was northbound in the far left lane, approaching the Route 133 on-ramp. A short distance from the ramp, the pedestrian reportedly emerged from the wood line and ran across Route 495 from east to west. The Toyota struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane at a high rate of speed and then veered into the grassy median as the driver applied emergency braking. The operator and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 21-year-old Lawrence woman, was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

The facts and circumstances of the crash, including why the pedestrian entered the highway, remain under investigation by State Police-Andover with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
