NAHANT — Chief Timothy Furlong announced that the Nahant Police Department has been awarded $19,918 in grant funding to improve road safety.
The $19,918 grant funds were made available by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) and allocated by the Office of Grants and Research (OGR). This funding will be used to support the Municipal Road Safety Program, which assists in developing enforcement strategies to reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses in Massachusetts.
The Nahant Police Department will use the grant to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists in town. The grant will provide necessary resources, including increased staffing, to boost visibility, traffic awareness to the public, and traffic enforcement.
“Nahant sees a large increase in pedestrians and bicyclists during the summer, as visitors come to our beaches. As a small Department, this grant will allow to add extra patrols and increase our safety and enforcement efforts when they are needed most,” Chief Furlong said. “We would like to thank the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security for their ongoing support.”
