Rockport Police Department Responds to Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Crash

ROCKPORT – Police Chief John Horvath reports that the Rockport Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, Sept. 16, at about 2:57 p.m., Rockport Police received two 911 calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a small box truck on Railroad Avenue.

Responding officers arrived and observed a female elderly citizen being attended to by the truck’s driver and two passersby.

Gloucester Fire Rescue responded, and initially took the victim to Evans Field for transport by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. The victim then was taken by ambulance to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. The investigation by Rockport Police, the Essex District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section is active and ongoing.
