MERRIMACK VALLEY SPORTS DESK – We discuss the Chelmsford 8U Cal Ripken baseball team, which fell to Upper Allen Mechanicsburg 10-0 in the World Series championship morning in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, ending its great run. “It was a tough loss,” Chelmsford coach Adam McCusker told The Lowell Sun. “The pitching rules came into play. It was tough, but Upper Allen were a good team. They were solid defensively. We never really got anything going offensively.”
We also discuss the New England Football Journal’s pre-season All-State picks from the Merrimack Valley: Central Catholic‘s Preston Zinter and defensive back/running back Matthias Latham, who were named to the first team. On the second team were Central Catholic’s Sean Mercuri and lineman Jaden Wiggins.
Andover running back/receiver/linebacker Lincoln Beal was on the third team, and Methuen QB Drew Eason and Central first-year starting QB Blake Herbert were honorable mentions.
We also interview Lowell High School Athletics Director David Lezenski about the school’s new athletics facility, the MIAA statewide rankings format and all things Lowell Athletics.
