IPSWICH — Interim Town Manager Mary Gallivan and the Town of Ipswich would like to notify the community that the Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control and Wetlands Management District will conduct truck-based mosquito spraying at several schools and locations in town next week as a preventive measure.
Monday, Aug. 1, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., a white, mid-sized pickup truck with an NEMMC seal will drive slowly through designated areas with yellow lights activated while spraying barrier and adulticide sprays. In case of inclement weather, spraying will be conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
The areas to be treated are:
- Town Hall Fields, 25 Green St.
- Ball Fields, 65 Mile Lane
- Winthrop School, 65 Central St.
- Doyon School, 216 Linebrook Road
- Ipswich High & Middle School, 134 High St.
- Giles Firman Park, 94 Country Road
- Bialek Park, 17 Linebrook Road
- Father Ryc Park, 29 Kimball St.
- Benjamin Howe Memorial Park, 11 Howe St.
- Great Neck Park, 128 Littleneck Road
- Daniel Boone Park, 35 Spring St.
- Pony Express Fields, 2 Candlewood Road
The materials that will be applied at those locations are:
- Suspend Polyzone; EPA Reg# 432-1514; Active Ingredient: Deltamethrin 4.75%.
Suspend Polyzone is long-lasting, up to 90 days, and is an effective residual barrier formulation that controls adult mosquitoes, even in warmer and wet environments. The Safety Data Sheet and product label can be viewed by clicking here. - Zenivex E4-RTU; EPA Reg# 2724-807; Active Ingredient: Etofenprox (CAS #80844-07-1) 4%.
Zenivex E4 RTU mosquito adulticide is a high efficacy, reduced risk adulticide that provides quick, permanent knockdown and reliable control of adult mosquito populations in any mosquito habitat flying at the time of application. The Town of Ipswich is part of the Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control and Welands Management District, a state agency that provides mosquito control activities to communities in the region. The Town of Ipswich works collaboratively with the District to identify response plans. The Northeast Mosquito Control and Wetlands Management District decides how to best deploy its resources to protect communities, including where spraying occurs in Ipswich.
No mosquitos in Ipswich have tested positive for either West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis. The spraying is being conducted as a preventive measure.
The Mosquito Control and Wetlands Management District offers the following tips for residents ahead of spraying:
- Windows on the street side should be closed.
- Air conditioners may be left on.
- Please keep pets and children indoors during the hours of the spray.
- Windows and doors may be reopened, and pets let outside, 30 minutes after spray is complete.
