NORTH SHORE – Four local high school hockey teams all made it past the first round of the recent MIAA tournament, with two of them reaching the state semi-finals; and none of them was seeded lower than number 4 going into the playoffs. Gloucester (D2) and Lynnfield (D3) both made it to the semis, with Masconomet (D2) reaching the quarter finals and Winthrop (D4) making it to the second round.
All four teams played one another during the season representing the Cape Ann League (Lynnfield) and the Northeastern Conference.
Had they had their own league, the following standings showed how they fared against each other (with three games decided in overtime):
1. Masconomet 3-1
2. Winthrop 2-3
3. Gloucester 2-3
4. Lynnfield 1-2-1
Winthrop coach Dale Dunbar, Lynnfield coach Jon Gardner, Masconomet coach Andrew Jackson, and Gloucester coach Derek Geary all participated in MSO’s High School Hockey Coaches’ Round Table.
