GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Viking Street this morning.
Gloucester Fire was dispatched to 5 Viking St., at approximately 8:40 a.m. for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the second-story windows and a reclining chair on fire on the first floor.
The fire was brought under control within 13 minutesof crews’ arrival on scene.
No one was inside the home at the time and no injuries were reported. The house sustained smoke and water damage. City Inspectional Services is determining whether the home is habitable.
Beauport Ambulance Service provided medical standby at the scene. Station coverage was provided by the Rockport Fire Department.
Bay View Engine 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Car 2 and Car 3 responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department.
