(Audio) NEC Game Report: Marblehead High School Baseball Coach Mike Giardi with Summary of 5-3 Win over Beverly

Beverly jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the first on a Frost RBI single.

Marblehead pitcher Ben Weed then settled in – four total innings, one run.

In the third, Marblehead got on Beverly starter Eric DePiero.

Senior Third baseman Tommy Groom lead off with a  double.

Senior Centerfielder Gadot Gaskins singled him home and advanced to second on the throw.

Junior Second baseman Mat Titus (2 hits) had an infield hit down to third – Gaskins advanced to 3rd.

Junior Right Fielder Schuyler Schmitt then walked to load the bases and Charlie Titus hit a hard ground ball to third that wasn’t handled and led to one run.

Sophomore DH Shane Keough then drove in two with a single to center.

Junior Andy Titus then hit a sacrifice fly to knock in courtesy runner Bjorn Pluss.

With Marblehead up 5-1, Junior James Doody came in to relieve Ben Weed in the 5th.

Doody went 2.1 and was relieved in the bottom of the 7th by Craig Michalowski – who was able to finally shut the door with two big outs after Beverly cut the lead to two and had the tying run at the plate.

Marblehead is now 3-2 and faces Salem at Seaside Park in Marblehead Wednesday at 4 pm.
