From Generals’ Coach Nancy Waddell:
The Generals got off to a great start today with a 3-0 win over Rockport at the HWRHS stadium. The first goal came with 8 minutes left in the first half off a run by sophomore midfielder Ella Schenker who fed the ball to junior forward Claire Nistl. Schenker was unstoppable in the first half, making several dangerous runs down the left side. The second goal was scored by senior midfielder captain Abby Sturim off a cross by junior forward Kara O’Shea in the 13th minute of the second half. These two combined for another goal in the final minute, with Sturim scoring again from outside the penalty box on a pass from O’Shea.
Senior Elle Carter had the shutout. The Vikings took one shot. The Generals defense–junior Libby Collins, Junior Jackie Chapdelaine, senior Maddy Rostad, senior Molly Doane, and sophomore Chloe Gern--played strong in front of Carter. The Generals blasted 28 shots on the Rockport goalie who made several strong saves.
The Generals are 1-0 and face Georgetown on Wednesday.
Great to be out there and great to know the girls all had smiles under their masks.
