8 p.m. Update:  State and Local Police Investigating Fatal Tuesday Afternoon Crash in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER – Gloucester Deputy Fire Chief Tom LoGrande with more on today’s tragic accident:

 

GLOUCESTER – State and local police are investigating the cause of a mid-afternoon car crash in Gloucester in which the lone occupant was killed.  According to Deputy Fire Chief Tom Logrande, firefighters were called to the intersection of Concord Street and Essex Avenue where a vehicle had sheared off a utility pole, a fire hydrant and catapulted into some bushes of a nearby residence

As of 6 p.m, Concord Street was closed to traffic as the State Police Reconstruction Unit continued to investigate, and National Grid worked to replace the utility pole.  Gloucester’s DPW was also at the scene, clearing the wrecked fire hydrant and other debris from the crash.

The victim’s name has not been released.
