SALEM  – The Salem Literary Festival (Salem LIt Fest 2020) is a huge event that gathers authors and speakers from almost everywhere.  This year, due to the-virus-that-shall-not-be-named-here, the Salem Lit Fest will be all-virtual, beginning Thursday, September 10.

With more on the story, we turn to a trustee of the Salem Anthanaeum, Massachsetts Hall of Fame broadcaster, Diane Stern

  • A virtual Red Carpet, featuring authors presenting throughout the festival weekend, will be hosted by New York Times bestselling author and co-founder of A Mighty Blaze, Jenna Blum.
  • Writers talking about writing: its affects on their bodies, their minds, their families; exploring identities and examining faiths; launching new books, giving voice to new stories, revisiting frightening events; revealing lies, and discovering truths–authors have it all covered in a weekend of genre-busting, no-holds-barred book talk.
  • Saturday morning Story Hour for children will feature live readings by celebrated authors–Calef Brown, Samara Cole Doyon, Rajani LaRocca, and Scott Magoon. Presented with Salem Public Library.
  • The Festival’s YA Day, Sunday, September 13th, will feature 22 authors of young adult literature including the highly acclaimed Marie Rutkoski, New York Times bestselling author of the Winner’s Curse trilogy; Tiffany D. Jackson, winner of the Coretta Scott King-John Steptoe New Talent Award and nominee for the NAACP Image Award; and Anna-Marie McLemore, nominee for the Stonewall Honor and the National Book Award in Young People’s Literature.
The Salem Lit Fest aims to inspire and promote literacy and a love of books and reading through programming featuring both contemporary authors and engagement with classic works of literature. Events will be held online this year, but we still look forward to four days of book talk! Thank you to our friends at Salem Public Library for organizing the Children’s Story Hour.
