- The Collector’s Office at Salem City Hall will resume accepting passport applications for processing on Monday, July 13th. Passport applications will only be accepted by appointment. Please call the office at (978) 619-5621 to schedule an appointment.
- The Black Picnic at Salem Willows has been an annual celebration in mid-July of self-governance by freed Black people across the north east since 1885. Over the last few years a private organization, Salem United, has coordinated more formal elements to the day’s festivities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Salem United has withdrawn its permit requests for the event this year. Accordingly, there will be no parade, vendors, or entertainment. As a public park, the Salem Willows is open to the public, however. Those planning to visit the Willows, and any City park, must follow the public health measures in effect, including a requirement for face coverings or masks and the maintaining of at least six feet of physical distance from other people. Park attendees are encouraged, to the greatest extent possible, to carry out their trash and belongings and to wash or sanitize their hands frequently.
- As a reminder, the City is no longer suspending ticketing/towing of vehicles parked on street on sweeping days. Please note when your street is posted for street sweeping and move your vehicle in order to avoid being towed and to allow the street to be more completely swept clean.
Status of Cases
As of 4:00 p.m. on July 9, 2020, there were 638 Salem residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which 139 cases are currently active. 30 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, 499 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period.
As of July 8, 2020, Salem’s case rate per 100,000 people was 6.1% less than the state’s case rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 5,615 tests have been conducted on Salem residents. The percent of Salem residents testing positive for the week of July 1 – 8, 2020 was 1.14%. Additional data about COVID-19 cases in Salem can be found at www.salem.com/covid19.
