The Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested two men in Lynn last night after finding a handgun with a high capacity magazine and various narcotics in a rented sport utility vehicle they were driving.
MSP Gang Unit, which regularly assists Lynn Police with street level enforcement of gang-, gun-, and drug-related offenses, was aware of a recent uptick in shots fired incidents in North Shore cities.
At about 6:40 p.m. a Gang Unit Trooper observed a gray Dodge Durango with Virginia plates traveling approximately 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Route 107. The Trooper got behind the Durango and pulled it over at Route 107 at Manning Street. As he approached the vehicle he observed the two male occupants appeared nervous and were moving in an exaggerated manner inside the SUB.
The Trooper identified the driver as SHONDEL HOLLOWAY, 21, of Lynn, who could not produce the car’s registration and stated it was a rental belonging to a relative. The passenger could not produce an ID but was eventually identified as KEMONI BOONE, 21, of Malden.
Several other Troopers responded to back up the stop. Troopers took both men out of the Durango and, during a search, located a Christmas gift bag in the rear if the vehicle that contained a digital scale and several small plastic bags containing suspected heroin or fentanyl.
Troopers then located, secreted in the console area, a black semi-automatic pistol with a high-capacity magazine. One round was in the chamber and 15 were in the magazine.
Troopers placed both men under arrest and transported them to State Police-Revere for booking. During the booking process, Troopers located plastic bags hidden in the seat of each suspect’s pants. The bags contained pills believed to be Percocet.
During booking HOLLOWAY told Troopers he had to vomit. He was placed in a cell where he vomited up a plastic bag containing small blue pills also believed to be Percocet. Troopers asked him if he had swallowed any other drugs besides that bag, to which he said he had not.
HOLLOWAY and BOONE were each charged with:
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm;
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition;
- Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device;
- Being Felons in Possession of a Firearm; and
- Conspiracy to Violate Narcotics Laws.
HOLLOWAY was additionally charged with:
- Trafficking Heroin and
- Possession of a Class B Narcotic With Intent to Distribute.
BOONE was additionally charged with Trafficking in a Class B Narcotic.
Both men were in possession of a total of just under $2,500 cash suspected to be the illicit proceeds of drug sales.
They were expected to be arraigned through Lynn District Court today.
