City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – May 20, 2020

The City of Salem continues to advance measures to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), lessen impacts on healthcare providers responding to this evolving situation, and support Salem residents and businesses during this public health emergency.  New Updates

 Pursuant to the state’s guidance on reopening, City athletic courts are reopening for limited use, so long as that use is in accordance with the state requirements here: www.mass.gov/doc/parks-open-space-and-outdoor-education-best-practices-5-18-20/download#page=2.

• Olde Salem Greens will reopen to golfers starting Friday, May 22^nd, pursuant to the guidance and requirements available here: www.massgolf.org/play/safeplayguidelines/. No walk-ons will be admitted; book your tee time by calling ahead. Specific details and rules will be posted on the course website at www.salem.com/recreation.
• The City will be selling Winter Island/Forest River Park parking stickers via a “drive through” on May 27^th and May 28^th from 4-7pm in the parking lot at the Community Life Center, 401 Bridge Street. Residents should bring license/registration or other proof of residency. You can also purchase these stickers online at www.salem.com/recreation/pages/parking-stickers-winter-island-mccabe-marina-and-forest-river.

Status of Cases

As of 4:00 p.m. on May 20, 2020, there are 557 Salem residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which 287 cases are currently active. 26 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, 270 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period. As of May 12, 2020, Salem’s case rate was 4.3% below the state case rate.
