Breaking News – 8:55 a.m. – From Essex County District Attorney

Police have arrested a 64-year old man in connection with the shooting death of Donald Fogg on March 13, 2020.

At approximately 5:00 this morning, police executed an arrest warrant for Bruce Gunn at 401 Cabot Street, Apt. 2 in Beverly. Mr. Gunn was taken into custody without incident and is expected to be arraigned on a murder charge by teleconference in Salem District Court this morning.

On March 13, 2020, Beverly Police responded to 10 Summer Street for a report of a “man down.”  Upon arrival, they found Donald Fogg, 50, suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Essex District Attorney’s Office, Essex State Police Detective Unit and the Beverly Police conducted the investigation.

Essex Assistant District Attorney Kelleen Forlizzi will represent the Commonwealth at the arraignment.

New Updates 

• Today, the Commonwealth extended the closure of non-essential businesses to May 18^th and announced that the Department of Public Health’s Stay At Home Advisory remains in effect and gatherings of 10 or more people remain prohibited until May 18^th. As a result of that announcement, City buildings will continue to be closed to the public, however City staff remain available by phone and email.

• The Salem Beautification Committee’s annual plant sale, scheduled for May 16^th, has been cancelled.

Status of Cases

As of 4:00 p.m. on April 28, 2020, 363 Salem residents have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 16 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, at least 82 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period. There are currently 281 active cases. Additional data about Salem COVID-19 cases is below. The graphs below now include demographic data about Salem COVID-19 cases, which will be available on a weekly basis. The graph of total Salem cases has been adjusted to also show active Salem cases, dating from the starting point at which that data was available to the City.
