City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – April 13, 2020
The City of Salem continues to advance measures to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), lessen impacts on healthcare providers responding to this evolving situation, and support Salem residents and businesses during this public health emergency. New Updates
- The Salem Veterans’ Council, in collaboration with the North Shore Veterans’ Coalition, is making available free face mask coverings for the community’s veterans starting on April 14th and for as long as supplies last. To arrange to receive a mask, veterans can contact the City’s Director of Veterans’ Services, Kim Emerling, at 978-745-0883 or kemerling@salem.com, or Al Nee from the North Shore Veterans’ Coalition at 978-825-7207 or ayee@masshire-nscareers.org.
- This week, Preserving Salem’s #SalemTogether tells the stories of the Great Salem Fire of 1914, which destroyed 1,600 buildings and left one-third of the City’s residents homeless, unemployed, or both. - The Red Cross has issued a call for blood donations and is encouraging individuals to keep scheduled donation appointments and make new ones for the weeks ahead, to ensure a stable supply through the pandemic. Blood drive sites are following rigorous safety and infection control measures. Those who are healthy, feeling well and eligible to give blood or platelets, are urged to make an appointment to donate as soon as possible by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
- The team at Destination Salem has put together a page sharing all the ways you can experience Salem online with virtual programming hosted by some of our museums and attractions. Find it at www.salem.org/virtualsalem/.
- The deadline for applying for Community Preservation Act grants has been extended to April 29th.
