Javaris Hill (Lynn) led MassBay Community College was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Regional 21 All region team. Hill graduated for Lynn English and averaged just under 20 points per game this season

BEVERLY In an effort to remain positive and celebrate our student-athletes during these unprecedented times, the Endicott Athletics and Recreation Department will celebrate Division III Week from April 13-19 with its fellow NCAA Division III members.

WHAT IS D3 WEEK WEEK?

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.

Salem State Basketball Standout Earns Honor 

SALEM – Senior forward Hakeem Animashaun (Dedham), who was named the 2019-2020 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, earned All-Northeast honors this week after being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III Northeast All-District Second Team and to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Third Team.

Animashaun led the conference in points per game (23.4), total rebounds (338), offensive rebounds (118), defensive rebounds (220), rebounds per game (12.5) and blocks (70). His 12.5 rpg game ranked fifth in the country while his 23.4 ppg average ranked 19th nationally.  Animashaun’s 2.59 blocked shots per game were seventh best overall and he led all of Division III in free throw attempts (276). He finished third in the nation with 22 double-doubles.

Animashaun, reached double figures in scoring in 26-of-27 games this year including two 40-point performances, the first a 41-point effort against Clark on December 29th and later a 40-point outburst against Bridgewater State on January 14th. Animashaun scored his 1,000th career point against Brandeis on December 8th and ended his Salem State career ranked in the top-ten all time in points (1,457-7th), rebounds (735-8th) and blocks (137-5th).
