George Norris, 58, has succumbed to injuries early this morning at Massachusetts General Hospital. He had been airlifted there after he and two others had been struck while riding their bikes in the area of 197 Topsfield Road in Ipswich. The other two victims – a 60-year old woman and a 19-year old boy are recovering from their injuries. The operator of the motor vehicle, a 43-year old Ipswich woman, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
No charges or citations have issued at this time. The matter remains under investigation by the Ipswich Police, the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Essex District Attorney’s Office.

IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that the Ipswich Police Department is investigating after three bicyclists were seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:11 p.m., Ipswich Police and Fire responded to the area of 197 Topsfield Road, near Turner Hill, for a report of three bicyclists struck by a motor vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located a 58-year-old Ipswich man, a 60-year-old Ipswich woman and a 19-year-old Ipswich man who had been struck by a Kia Soul.
The 58-year-old man and 19-year-old man were transported by ambulance to the Turner Hill Golf Club before being flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The 60-year-old woman was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital with injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
The driver of the Kia Soul, a 43-year-old Ipswich woman, remained at the scene and was cooperative with police. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious.
Topsfield Road was closed in both directions while police were at the scene. The road has since reopened.
As of 6 p.m., no citations or charges have been filed. The incident remains under active investigation by the Ipswich Police Department and Ipswich detectives, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and State Police detectives. The Essex County DA’s Office has also been made aware of the investigation.
