From Marblehead Boys’ Basketball Coach Mike Giardi:

Marblehead 55

Swampscott 59

Game played at Marblehead.

Halftime

Marblehead 22

Swampscott 32

Swampscott came out and Marblehead came out cold and had to fight and uphill battle the whole way.

Down 15-2 early Marblehead clawed and fought their way back into it.

Marblehead made some good adjustments in the second and fourth quarter but too many turnovers early and too many points left at the line (15-28) hurt the magicians.

Senior Cam Weaver led the way for the Magicians with 16.

Junior Captain Finn Baron back him up with 12 points.

The Magicians end the season with a 13-7 record and now await their opponent in the MIAA Div 2 tournament which will be announced Saturday,

Ipswich Boys’ Basketball

Ipswich surrendered a big lead in the fourth quarter then had to come back from a deficit of its own before ultimately prevailing over Winthrop 57-54 in a hard-fought contest Wednesday afternoon at Doug Woodworth Court. The Tigers won their fifth straight and finished the regular season 13-7, while the Vikings finished a misleading 5-15 after playing in the difficult NEC all season.

Ipswich led from the opening tap, eventually opening up a 9-point lead, 41-32, when Rex Satter drilled a three at the third quarter buzzer. Winthrop battled back behind senior Noah Bayersdorfer and freshman Lucas Gabriel, going on runs of 8-0 and 7-0 to take a 51-49 lead with three minutes remaining.

Anderson Pillis scored to reclaim the lead for Ipswich but Bayerdorfer’s three put the Vikings ahead 54-52. On the ensuing possession Trevor Manning kicked out to Satter who buried a three to give the Tigers the lead, 55-54, for the final time.

The game was not secured until the final 10 seconds when Tanner and Trevor Manning acted like a giant web on the perimeter, forcing Bayersdorfer into an off-balance heave that never had a chance as the shot clock expired. Satter hit two final free throws, as the Tigers escaped with the win.

Satter led all scorers with 22 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Pillis had 14 points, while Trevor Manning, in addition to key defensive stops, contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds. Vin Winter had 8 assists for Ipswich.

For Winthrop, Bayersdorfer ended with 21, including 11 in the fourth quarter, and Gabriel had 19
