Girls’ Soccer: Generals Remain Unbeaten with 3-2 Win over Peabody

From Hamilton-Wenham girls’ soccer coach Nancy Waddell:
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Peabody 2
The Generals came out firing and led 2-0 with just over 5 minutes gone off the clock.  Senior defender Lilly Giovannucci put a corner kick directly in from the corner in the second minute.  Four minutes later senior midfielder Savannah Gauron scored her 19th goal of the season when she was taken down in the penalty box.  She finished the ensuing PK.  After working hard for the early lead, the Generals rested on their laurels and Peabody continued to work hard.  They were rewarded in the 25th minute when Brielle Broughton put a corner kick directly in.
In the second half, the Generals picked up their play a bit and freshman forward Alex Capuano finished a pass from Gauron.  This was Capuano’s third goal of the season.  With 17 minutes left on the clock,  the Generals committed a foul in the box after a defensive breakdown.  Peabody was awarded a PK and climbed to within a goal.
Layla Yankee, junior goalie, had 2 saves for the Generals.
The Generals are 13-0-4.  They complete their regular season tomorrow against Swampscott at 4:30.  This game was scheduled for Thursday, but was moved due to the impending storm.
